ART & ARTi
Abstract Reasoning Test & Abstract Reasoning Test – Item Banked
A non-verbal measure of fluid intelligence — the capacity to reason with novel information that cannot be solved through prior knowledge or experience.
Reasoning with Novel Information
The Abstract Reasoning Test (ART) and its item-banked version (ARTi) assess fluid intelligence: the capacity to reason with novel information that cannot be solved through prior knowledge or experience.
Using a matrix-completion format, the test presents complex visual patterns that must be understood across two simultaneous dimensions, making it particularly relevant for roles requiring strategic thinking and the ability to rapidly grasp new concepts.
The ART is intended to complement the CRTB2, together covering the three main reasoning domains. Similarly, the ARTi is intended to complement the CRTBi.
What It Measures
Fluid Intelligence
The ability to identify logical patterns in novel, non-verbal material and deduce their consequences without reference to prior learning — assessed through holistic deductive reasoning across two simultaneous dimensions.
When to Use the ART & ARTi
Graduate & Managerial Selection
Identify candidates with the reasoning ability needed for graduate and managerial roles.
Strategic & Adaptive Roles
Roles requiring strategic thinking, adaptability and the ability to learn quickly.
Cross-Cultural & Multilingual Contexts
Useful where language or numeracy may be a barrier — the test does not rely on either.
Unsupervised Remote Administration
Use the ARTi when unsupervised remote administration is required — the item bank reduces exposure risk.
Report Options
Profile charts, narrative descriptions and candidate-friendly feedback for individual and group analysis.
Standard Report
Profile charts and a narrative description of the respondent's performance.
Feedback Report
A candidate-friendly feedback report summarising performance.
Results Spreadsheet
Spreadsheet providing a comparative overview across candidates.
